In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked. “50¢,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. “35¢!” she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip. (...)»

Resistência à sharia

Os responsáveis por uma mesquita nova-iorquina tentaram convencer, primeiro delicadamente, depois com ameaças veladas, os donos de um restaurante a não servir bebidas alcoólicas. Os empresários, corajosamente, recusaram, dando um bom exemplo de resistência à jihad furtiva (stealth jihad), em defesa do modo de vida ocidental face às tentativas de imposição do modo de vida islâmico. Um caso a saudar e a seguir.

Uso apropriado

Terror khmer

Miguel Castelo Branco sobre o terror khmer:

Noam Chomsky afirmou então que o testemunho do Padre Ponchaud não passava de cabala contra o socialismo. Só não acreditou quem se deixara cegar por décadas de propaganda comunista. Se Trostky aplicara o "comunismo de guerra", se a Espanha se enchera de valas comuns, se sobre todo o Leste europeu se abatera a mais sinistra forma de governação pelo medo de que havia memória, se Mao trucidara milhões, por que razão Pol Pot não faria o mesmo ? (...) Depois disto, só pode permanecer comunista quem perdeu aquela elementar dignidade que nos separa da animalidade.»

Estratégia anti-terrorista (2)

Segundo o NY Times, a administração Obama decidiu retirar das zonas rurais, deixando-as à mercê dos talibãs, e acoitar-se nas cidades. A decisão tem tantas desvantagens que o melhor é ler o postal do Hot Air e seguir as hiperligações. Queriam change, não queriam?

Estratégia anti-terrorista

Com a situação a complicar-se no Afeganistão, Victor Davis Hanson, no Pajamas Media, analisa a estratégia da administração Obama na gestão deste conflito, entre outras coisas. Um cronista a seguir atentamente:

«(...)Terrorism

Here is our anti-terrorism policy.

1) Euphemism: hope that words can change reality—“overseas contingency operations” aimed at “man-caused disasters” (this will mean there is no more terrorism as our enemies are no longer demonized)

2) Apologies to Islam: boast that Muslims fueled the Renaissance, invented printing, pretty much gave the world our present civilization, while we offended them after 9/11 (this will mean no more plotting inside the US to kill us all, as they sense our newfound empathy)

3) “Bush Did it”: a) blame Bush the Impaler for our unpopularity and shredding the Constitution to pacify the Middle East and Europe; while stealthily keeping in play most of his protocols like Predators (more attacks in last 9 months than Bush did in 3 years); tribunals, renditions, intercepts, wiretaps, and Guantanamo, etc.); (this will mean that we copy Bush, but blame him for our failures and claim success as our own).

4) Reach-out: Become socialist at home, and UNish abroad, to convince an Ahmadinejad, Assad, Chavez, Putin, and others that we are a declining, 1950s British-like socialist state, a threat to no one, exceptional in the manner that Greece is, and becoming, as Pravda boasts daily, more like them than they like us (this will mean, why hate us when we are one of you?)

5) Declare victory and leave: there is a reason why Afghanistan and now Iraq have flared up since Obama took office, and it may well have to do with the fact that radical Islam, defeated in Iraq, stalemated in Afghanistan, suddenly bets that with a little push here and there, Obama will declare victory and leave, with something like “We can’t win Bush’s wars.” If I were a terrorist, I might think, “One or two more big death days, and this American government will Mogadishu its way home”).

In a year or two, al Qaeda will begin to suspect we are the weaker horse. They hated us when we were strong, but they will hate us even more when we appear weak. There will be renewed plots at home, and a fiery Middle East within two years—with all sorts of opportunists like China and Russia ready to capitalize.

Why the pessimism? I think there are a few truths that transcend politics and remain eternal. In life as a general rule, debt has to be paid back, and with greater pain and anger than it was to borrow it. Bullies do not respect magnanimity, but tragically interpret it as weakness to be exploited rather than to be admired.

Hoping that something good comes true —like being self-reliant through solar and wind—does not make it true; neglecting the riches at hand to dream about greater riches that do not exist is adolescent. Radical Islam hates the West, not because of what we do or say, but because of who we are: a dynamic, mercurial culture that challenges all the protocols of a traditional, tribal and religiously fundamentalist society.

Diplomacy is a tool to lessen, but not eliminate, tensions—a way to conduct foreign policy, not a foreign policy in and of itself.

I hope I am wrong about all of the above, and that human nature really has magically changed in the era of Obama. So close your eyes, listen to the Messiah’s voice, and repeat: “Debts will be forgiven by creditors; inflation will not follow from massive borrowing; breakthroughs in solar and wind will power our cars and heat our homes; enemies will admire our compassion and join us to achieve world peace; and terrorists are either misunderstood or provoked needlessly by our bellicosity that alone stands in the way of peace.”

Believe all that and you can lie back and enjoy the age of Obama. (...)»

Palestinianos torturados

Ler Melanie Phillips: palestinianos do Hamas torturados por palestinianos (moderados) da Fatah, os quais recebem generosos subsídios do estado britânico. Não deixar de ler o postal de Tom Gross no Media Blog da National Review.

É comprar

O New York Times noticia que em Gaza, através de túneis escavados sob a fronteira com o Egipto, entram todo o tipo de bens de consumo. Aqui fica uma lista copiada do artigo:

«Dusty sacks filled with cans of Coca-Cola (...), [t]housands of motorcycles (...), flat-screen televisions, microwaves, air-conditioners, generators and ovens, (...) cars smuggled in parts, (...) live animals, motorcycles, potato chips, Coca-Cola and clothing for women and children. But the most lucrative import is fuel (...).»

Melanie Phillips questiona:

«(...) And what else apart from live animals, motorcycles, potato chips, flat-screen televisions, microwaves, air-conditioners, generators and ovens is coming in through those tunnels? We can all guess.»

Corrosão cultural premeditada

Melanie Phillips dá conta das revelações feitas por Andrew Neather, redactor de discursos dos governos trabalhistas de Blair a respeito da imigração maciça e do seu efeito sobre o tecido cultural e social britânico, revelações essas que já mereceram do seu autor uma tentativa de recuo. Afirma Phillips: «In the Daily Mail, I have written about the amazing revelation (...) by Andrew Neather, a former speechwriter to various Labour ministers, that the government had not only deliberately encouraged mass immigration to Britain in order to destroy its identity and transform it into a multicultural society but had covered up what it was doing because it was well aware that the public would rise up in revolt. Such a deliberate transformation of Britain’s society while keeping the public in the dark can only be described as treachery. (...)» A ler integralmente, o artigo do Daily Mail e o postal do Spectator. Estas revelações têm a sua ressonância amplificada pelas informações recentes a respeito da entrada em vigor dos tribunais de sharia no Reino Unido.

Aristocracia Democrata (3)

Maria Antonieta terá perguntado, quando informada de que o povo não tinha pão para comer, por que não comiam bolos. Esta história apócrifa transformou-se no paradigma da alienação dos governantes aristocratas em relação à vida real dos seus concidadãos pobres. Uma das razões invocadas para essa extrema alienação seria a educação aristocrata, a qual não compreendia nenhum contacto com o povo. Inexplicável a esta luz é o comportamento dos Obama, já outras vezes aqui reportado. A menos que o mito das origens plebeias de Obama e da esposa seja falso. Na verdade, um e outro nasceram e foram educados em famílias de classe média-alta, com elevado nível académico, razão provável para o sentimento de que algo lhes é devido pela sociedade e que tem sido cobrado por via da affirmative action. Agora a cobrança faz-se na Casa Branca. Todos comem; até o cão:

Um país, dois sistemas legais

«ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases. The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence. Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court. Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims. (...) There are concerns that women who agree to go to tribunal courts are getting worse deals because Islamic law favours men. Siddiqi said that in a recent inheritance dispute handled by the court in Nuneaton, the estate of a Midlands man was divided between three daughters and two sons. The judges on the panel gave the sons twice as much as the daughters, in accordance with sharia. Had the family gone to a normal British court, the daughters would have got equal amounts. In the six cases of domestic violence, Siddiqi said the judges ordered the husbands to take anger management classes and mentoring from community elders. There was no further punishment. In each case, the women subsequently withdrew the complaints they had lodged with the police and the police stopped their investigations. (...)»

Solução bélica

O Hamas esclarece, para quem ainda tinha dúvidas, que solução para os conflitos à volta da soberania sobre a Cidade Santa, Jerusalém, será bélica:

«(...) Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal declared that "Jerusalem's fate will be decided with jihad (holy war) and resistance, and not negotiations." (...)»

3ª Intifada emerge

O Hamas apela à insurreição árabe por alegada profanação da mesquita situada no Monte do Templo:

«(...) The group [Hamas] (...) called on Palestinians to rise up against Israel, for Arabs and Muslims worldwide to punish Israel. "The real battle begins again," declared spokesman Fawzi Barhoum. In the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority condemned the Israeli operation. "Jerusalem is a red line that Israel should not cross," said Nabil Abu Rdeneh, spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas. Entretanto, um membro árabe do parlamento israelita (!?) queixou-se de ter esperado 50 minutos para entrar na mesquita. Via Jihad Watch.

Obama iguala Bush

Em apenas nove meses, o presidente Obama já conseguiu fazer algo que levou a Bush dois anos e meio a conseguir: jogar 24 partidas de golfe. Com uma agenda tão carregada de compromissos inadiáveis e de acções de angariação de fundos, não surpreende que não tenha disponibilidade para ir a Berlim participar nas comemorações (para alguns deplorações) da queda do Muro.

Porque é militar

O alarido à volta dos lamentáveis episódios de violência no Colégio Militar só se compreende se nos dermos conta de que se trata de um caso instrumentalizado pelas forças políticas revolucionárias, sempre à espreita de uma ocasião para destruir os pilares da civilização ocidental e as forças que a defendem, prontamente amplificado por media sedentos de sangue, quando não ideologicamente comprometidos. Carlos Velasco, n'O Gládio, a propósito da nomeação de Augusto Santos Silva para a pasta da Defesa, resume:

«(...) Não por acaso aparecem agora notícias que visam desacreditar o Colégio Militar, instituição que deveria servir de exemplo para todas as escolas da Nação. O barulho que fazem em torno de uma banalidade típica de todas as escolas e que deve ser combatida constantemente pelos responsáveis, o abuso dos menores pelos maiores, é simplesmente uma pequena parte de uma campanha intensa para destruir as forças armadas portuguesas e acabar com a soberania do país.

Se a atenção dada pelos media ao ensino nas escolas públicas em geral fosse proporcional ao que se vê neste caso, o país não falava de outra coisa a não ser acabar com a escola pública como ela é hoje; um centro de promoção da estupidez, do crime, do desrespeito ao próximo e da revolução.»
