Probably this suicide bomber misunderstood the passage in the Qur'an that guarantees Paradise to those who "kill and are killed" for Allah (9:111) to mean -- now, I know this is crazy -- that Paradise is guaranteed to those who "kill and are killed" for Allah. Everybody knows, of course, that if you only understood Arabic, you'd know that the passage really means that Paradise is guaranteed to those who "hug and are hugged" for Allah, but Misunderstanding of Islam is sadly rampant among the devoutest believers.

Hi Robert, The regulars to your column understand the sarcasm behind your words that 9:111 says ‘hug and hugged for Allah’. But, the newcomers may take it literally.
Quran verse 9:111 is my favourite and it lays out the nakedness of Islam for all to see. According to the verse the Muslims who kill non-Muslims and are killed while engaged in such killing will attain Shahadat (Islamic martyrdom). Such martyrs are guaranteed Jannat (Islamic heaven) with minimum 72 virgins to enjoy. This equates Islam with similar violent religions from our past. Aztec religion asked Aztecs to sacrifice non-Aztecs for the pleasure of Aztec God, Huitzilopochtli. Viking religion commanded Viking soldiers to kill non-Vikings in order to gain entry to Viking heaven, Valhalla, and dine and drink with Viking God, Odin.
