Read more at vladtepesblog.comI very much hope that the powers-that-won’t take this very seriously. If the attack on the Coptic church in Alexandria wasn’t enough for them, and it won’t be, and the attacks that have already happened to Churches in Europe aren’t enough, and they will be dismissed as the work of kids and vandals and petty thugs, then the published lists of Coptic targets in Canada and elsewhere should be enough. Al Qaeda is, as they say, an inch deep and a mile wide at this point. But the selective murder of soft targets is where a mile wide counts.

Bishop Anba Damian, head of the Coptic Church in Germany, told Bild am Sonntag newspaper that he had asked the government for special protection out of fear his church's followers would be targeted.
"Before Christmas, the internet was full of threats against us," he said. "The police have warned us several times of the danger of attacks by radical Muslims. I have therefore written to the Interior Ministry and asked for protection."...
Deputy chairwoman of the conservative Christian Democratic Union and Education Minister Annette Schavan called on the Egyptian government to more clearly distance itself from such religious attacks.
"Muslim authorities in Cairo and elsewhere must take an unambiguous position against all forms of violence in the name of religion," she told daily Hamburger Abendblatt. "They must make clear that they reject violence against other religions."
Greens parliamentary leader Volker Beck told the Frankfurter Rundschau that Egypt and other states such as Nigeria that had recently experienced religious attacks had to act more firmly to stamp out such violence.
"A condemnation of such attacks is not enough," Beck said. "Egypt and other states must firmly confront the demon of religious intolerance."...

Hans-Peter Uhl, foreign and security spokesman for the Christian Social Union - the CDU's Bavarian sister party - warned violence by Islamic extremists could spill over into Germany. He called on moderate Muslims to clearly distance themselves from such violence.

Iran’s most repressed religious minority is also its largest. Members of the community are routinely imprisoned, frequently executed, banned from universities, and ruthlessly repressed economically. Tens of thousands have been murdered by one regime after another. The current government—the Khomeinist “Islamic Republic”—goes farther than any other by vowing to crush these people wherever they live and erase them from the face of the earth.
There are only six or seven million in the entire world, and their spiritual home is in Israel. I am not, however, referring here to the Jews, but to the Bahais.
Their world headquarters is in Israel, and they came during Ottoman times from Persian lands. The nation-state of one of the world’s oldest religions now hosts the holiest site of one of the newest, and the nation where the Bahai Faith was born vows to destroy the nation where the Bahai Faith had to migrate.
The strikingly different treatments of these people by Iran and by Israel infuses the looming showdown between the Middle East’s two most powerful countries with even more moral clarity than it already had.
The Bahai gardens in Haifa, Israel
The U.S. State Department rates Iran one of the worst violators of religious freedom in the world, particularly for its repression against the Bahais. “Bahai religious groups reported arbitrary arrest and prolonged detention,” says its most recent annual report, “expulsions from universities, and confiscation of property. During the reporting period government-controlled broadcast and print media intensified negative campaigns against religious minorities, particularly the Bahais.” Even the United National General Assembly recently condemned the Iranian government on similar grounds.
Around 300,000 Bahais are still in Iran, ten times the number of Christians and Jews there. Two million or so live in India. There are many more in South America and Africa. Only 150,000 or so live in the U.S., but the faith has been growing in Eastern Europe since the fall of the Soviet Union.
Most worship in their houses, but there are community centers in places where enough Bahais are concentrated. There’s a house of worship on each continent. North America’s is in Chicago. South America’s is in Chile. Asia’s is in Delhi.
The Bahai house of worship in Chicago, Illinois
In 1844 a young man named Mirza Ali Muhammad, a merchant in the city of the Iranian city of Shiraz, said he was the herald of a new revelation from God. He announced the coming of the new great teacher.
“He called himself the Báb,” Weinberg said, “which means ‘the gate’ in Arabic, and his teachings began to spread throughout Persia. Thousands upon thousands of people responded and were very attracted to the teaching. He said a new day had come, a day when religions would become united, when people would recognize their oneness, when the equality of men and women would be established.”
One of his first followers was a poet who removed her veil in public, something unheard of in that day, though it was perfectly normal before the Khomeinists took over in 1979. “There were reports of a man cutting his throat,” Weinberg said, “because he was so shocked at the audacity of this act.”
This new religion alarmed the authorities as it spread. Shia Muslims were abandoning Islam and becoming Bábis, followers of the Báb. Pogroms followed, and 20,000 were executed, many in horrible ways. They were executed not because they were criminals, nor for political reasons. They were executed because they were heretics. The Báb himself was publicly executed in 1850 in Tabriz.
Tabriz is an Azeri city. In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan—the now-sovereign Azeri land detached long ago from the Persian Empire by Czarist Russia—is a statue of a liberated woman discarding her veil. It was erected almost a century ago, and the liberation has held.

Activists forced the Archdiocese of Madrid, Spain to cancel a speech Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela planned to give at the Autonomous University of Madrid on Dec. 1.
The Spanish radio network, COPE, criticized the “aggressive secularism” of such activists in an editorial on its website.
Cardinal Rouco was scheduled to give a lecture titled, “The God who is unknown to 21st century Spaniards.” However, several days ago activist groups began calling for the event to be disrupted. The Spanish government said it could not guarantee the cardinal’s security, and Church officials therefore decided to cancel the speech.
“What happened here is another example of the cultural paradigm that seeks to impose aggressive secularism,” the editorial stated, while denouncing the activists' “efforts to silence anyone who would speak of God and the meaning of man’s existence.”
“And there is the added irony that freedom and truth have become a nuisance at the place which is supposed to be the pillar of knowledge – the university,” the editorial continued.
Because of these threats, COPE said, students will not hear the cardinal speak “about ‘the God who is unknown’ to the Spaniards of our day, like St. Paul did at the Areopagus of Athens.”
“The difference is that while 2,000 years ago, St. Paul could freely speak of the ‘unknown God,’ now an entire democratic system has caved in to the threats of violence, refusing to guarantee freedom and order on the university campus,” COPE stated.
The editorial also criticized the Spanish government for its unwillingness to “defend the liberties guaranteed by the Constitution,” and university officials “who also have done nothing to defend their own students.”

More Misunderstanders of Islam fail to realize what Islamic apologists in the West always tell us: that Islam has no death penalty for apostasy, and forbids honor killing.
"Somali Teenage Girl Shot to Death for Embracing Christ," from Compass Direct News, December 3 (thanks to all who sent this in):
NAIROBI, Kenya, December 3 (CDN) -- A 17-year-old girl in Somalia who converted to Christianity from Islam was shot to death last week in an apparent "honor killing," area sources said.
Nurta Mohamed Farah, who had fled her village of Bardher, Gedo Region to Galgadud Region to live with relatives after her parents tortured her for leaving Islam, died on Nov. 25. Area sources said they strongly suspected that the two unidentified men in Galgadud Region who shot her in the chest and head with a pistol were relatives or acting on their behest.
"Reports reached the relatives in Galgadud that Nurta Farah had converted to Christianity," one source said. "The suspicion that the family is responsible is a solid one. The sister was killed in Abudwaq, a district in Galgadud Region, and the place where the incident took place is about 200 meters from where the sister was staying with relatives."
Relatives buried Farah, sources said. Her parents had severely beaten her for leaving Islam and regularly shackled her to a tree at their home, Christian sources said. She had been confined to her home in Gedo region in southern Somalia since May 10, when her family found out that she had embraced Christianity, said a Christian leader who visited the area (see "Family of 17-Year-Old Somali Girl Abuses Her for Leaving Islam," June 15).
Her parents also took her to a doctor who prescribed medication for a "mental illness," he said. Alarmed by her determination to keep her faith, her father, Hassan Kafi Ilmi, and mother, Hawo Godane Haf, decided she had gone crazy and forced her to take the prescribed medication, but it had no effect in swaying her from her faith, the source said.
Traditionally, he added, many Somalis believe the Quran cures the sick, especially the mentally ill, so the Islamic scripture was recited to her twice a week.
She had declined her family's offer of forgiveness in exchange for renouncing Christianity, the source said. The confinement began after the medication and punishments failed.
Area Christians had reported that Farah was shackled to a tree by day and put in a small, dark room at night....
This is in accord with Islamic law for female apostates: that they be isolated and confined until they return to Islam.
Read more at www.jihadwatch.orgThe idea that someone who leaves Islam is mentally ill is very common among Muslims, who generally take the truth of Islam as so obvious that they believe that anyone who denies it is either evil and perverse (and usually motivated by a desire for fame or wealth or both), or insane. Thus Rifqa Bary, the girl who fled her Ohio home in fear for her life after her father discovered her conversion to Christianity, worried that if she were returned to her home her parents might take her back to their native Sri Lanka and commit her to an asylum. Other converts have reported being given medications in order to render them more docile and open to suggestion.

Antonio Morales, owner of Bellagio Day Spa in Southlake, had assembled and decorated a 9-foot-tall tree in the lobby of the Chase Bank branch at 1700 E. Southlake Boulevard as a favor to the branch manager, who is one of his clients.
The tree remained in the lobby from the Monday before Thanksgiving until Tuesday. Morales said his friend called him Wednesday to tell him the tree had to go. She later showed him an e-mail from JPMorgan Chase saying that the tree had to be removed because some people were offended by it.
The bank referred questions to corporate offices.
Greg Hassell, a JPMorgan Chase spokesman, said that the company's policy isn't anti-Christmas. "People wish their customers merry Christmas when it's appropriate," he said.
However, to ensure that everyone who visits Chase branches feels welcome and comfortable, the bank's policy is to use only decorations supplied by the company.
"We appreciate the thoughtful gesture from Mr. Morales," Hassell said. "Unfortunately, we're unable to keep it [the tree] on display for the remainder of the holiday season." JPMorgan Chase ensures that decorations are "something everyone is comfortable with, regardless of how they celebrate the season," Hassell said.
But others see the tree as a symbol of the season.
A spokeswoman at Trinity Bank in Fort Worth said it has had a tree in its lobby since the Friday after Thanksgiving.
"I've been in this business more than 30 years, and every place I've worked we've put up a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving," said Linda Robertson, assistant vice president. Bryan Fischer, director of issue analysis for the American Family Association, called Chase's decision absurd.
"According to Advertising Age, 91 percent of American people celebrate Christmas," Fischer said. "That means that the single most inoffensive thing you can do at this time of year is wish someone a merry Christmas."

Recorremos a Robert Spencer [http://www.jihadwatch.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/br0nc0s/managed-mt/mt-search.cgi?search=apostasy&IncludeBlogs=1&limit=20]:
«Islamic apologists in the U.S. routinely deny that Islamic law mandates that apostates from Islam be murdered. Unfortunately for the apostates, the facts are otherwise.
Muhammad, the prophet of Islam and supreme example of conduct for the Muslim (cf. Qur'an 33:21), said: "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, then kill him." (Bukhari 9.84.57)
The Tafsir al-Qurtubi, a classic and thoroughly mainstream exegesis of the Qur'an, says this about Qur'an 2:217: "Scholars disagree about whether or not apostates are asked to repent. One group say that they are asked to repent and, if they do not, they are killed. Some say they are given an hour and others a month. Others say that they are asked to repent three times, and that is the view of Malik. Al-Hasan said they are asked a hundred times. It is also said that they are killed without being asked to repent."
All the schools of Islamic jurisprudence all teach that a sane adult male who leaves Islam must be killed. They have some disagreements about what must he done with other types of people who leave Islam, but they have no disagreement on that.
The internationally renowned Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who has been praised as a "reformist" by pseudo-academic John Esposito, has said this about Islamic apostasy law: "That is why the Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi`i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-`ashriyyah, Al-Ja`fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed."»

Robertus Spencer & Petrus Kreeft quærentes: «Omnis perfectus muslimus estne malus muslimus?»
On Nov. 4 the topic was “Is the Only Good Muslim a Bad Muslim?” Mr. Spencer came to argue that Islam as codified in the Q’uran and explicated by all authoritative sources aspires to subjugate and oppress “unbelievers” and impose sharia law throughout the world; because sharia law is inimical to religious freedom and to human dignity, we as Catholics should hope that Muslims are not devout enough to advocate it, (as their own faith says they must) by either warlike or peaceful means.

«Peter Kreeft and Robert Spencer Engage in Lively Debate on Islam
by THOMAS MORE COLLEGE on NOVEMBER 8, 2010
On Nov. 4, 2010, Thomas More College hosted two of the leading writers on religion in the English-speaking world: Philosopher and apologist Peter Kreeft, professor of philosophy at Boston College, and internationally-known scholar and critic of Islam Robert Spencer, director of Jihadwatch. These two eminent thinkers came to the school’s New Hampshire campus on a rainy Thursday night and spoke to a crowd of more than 100 visitors , along with the whole of Thomas More College’s student body, crammed into the Newman Humanities room and spilling out into the hallways, as cameras rolled. The debate was chaired by Thomas More College’s Writer-in-Residence Dr. John Zmirak, author of The Bad Catholic’s Guide to the Seven Deadly Sins (New York: Crossroad Publishing, 2010). Both Spencer and Kreeft contributed essays to Disorientation: How to Go To College Without Losing Your Mind (West Chester, PA: Ascension Press, 2010), which Zmirak edited. Spencer’s essay criticized the anti-Western ideology of Multiculturalism, and Kreeft’s the heresy of Progressivism, or “chronological snobbery.”
Kreeft is author of more than 45 books about faith and philosophy, including such classics as Making Sense of Suffering and The Handbook of Christian Apologetics, and the provocative Ecumenical Jihad: Ecumenism and the Culture War. Spencer, a former philosophy student of Kreeft’s, has written ten books, including New York Times bestsellers The Truth About Muhammad and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades); he also edits the daily news site Jihadwatch, which tracks jihad-related violence and activism around the world, and consults regularly for the FBI and other national security agencies. While Kreeft is widely detested by dissenting Catholics and atheists for his agility at besting them in debates, Spencer is on a list of four Americans targeted by Al-Qaeda for assassination.

The authors came at the invitation of Thomas More College’s Edmund Campion Debate Society, which sponsors regular student debates on philosophical and theological issues—most recently the morality of the 18th (Prohibition) Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and the “just war” credentials of the American Revolution.

CATTOLICI
Insomma, «puro terrore». (Cfr. E. Sala, Elisabetta “la Sanguinaria”, Ares, pp. 240-241).Read more at www.rinocammilleri.com

Read more at www.minutodigital.com

A Muslim man set fire to a Coptic young man, murdered his father and wounded his younger brother, after it was rumored that the young Copt allegedly had a relationship with the Muslim man's sister!!
The events took place in the small village of "Dmas" Meet-Ghamr, after a rumor spread around of a relationship between the 25-year-old Copt Shihata Sabri, and the sister of a Muslim man named Yasser Ahmed Qasim.
Yasser went to Coptic Shehata, holding a gasoline canister, poured it over him and set him on fire, as bystanders looked on in horror. The young Copt threw himself into the adjacent canal to try to put out the flames from his burning body. The fire left burns all over his body, leading to his death.
Following this incident, people in the village rallied and when the 60-years-old Sabri Shehata, father of the Coptic victim arrived, he was attacked by a group of Muslims stabbing him with knives and daggers; one stab penetrated his back to come out of his abdomen below the rib cage, resulting in his death, after being transferred to hospital.
A Coptic witness said that Yasser Ahmed, who is reputed to be a thug, and others have also beaten the Coptic victim's younger brother, 22-year old Rami Sabri Shehata, causing a deep injury to his head.
The security forces moved into the village of Dmas, which has a population of 60,000 people, including over 1000 Copts, surrounded the victims' house and deployed extra forces throughout the village.
The offenders were arrested together with the accused Yasser Ahmed Kassem and his friend, as well as the Copt Shehata Sabry who was held in custody in Dmas Hospital. The offenders were charged with deliberate homicide.
The body of Coptic victim Sabri Shehata was released for burial after prayers took place at the Church of Our Lady in the village of Dakados, which lies 20 kilometers from Dmas, amid a tight security siege.
A Muslim villager portrayed the incident as an honour killing stressing that it was because of Coptic Shehata Sabri teasing Yasser about a relationship he has with his sister, which prompted him and his friend to pour gasoline all over the Copt before setting him on fire. He denied that this incident will have an impact on the relations between the Muslims and Copts in the village.
The prosecution and the State Security Services are still investigating the incident amid media blackout.Read more at voiceofthecopts.org

«Porque é que os cristãos continuam calados?»
Destaques:

No compulsion to Islam ~ doesn't extend to Muslims. In addition it was only the Christians and Jews in Muhammad's day who were not forced to convert ~ at times ~ and allowed to 'live' as second class citizens or dhimmis under Islamic rule. They were also required to pay a tax ~ or the jizya as a part of the deal for their 'protection'. All other groups were killed or forcibly converted, although in later years the dhimmi status was extended to other groups, such as the Zoroastrian, Hindus [far too many to kill] and Buddhists. The penalty for leaving Islam, in the four main schools of Islamic jurisprudence ~ is death.
So how should we respond when a country we have set free from tyranny is murdering their people that leave Islam for Christianity? That has been happening in Afghanistan and may happen again after a judgment today in an Afghani court.
Sayed Mossa, an Afghan convert from Islam to Christianity, has been scheduled to stand trial today and most likely will be sentenced to death. His trial for apostasy will probably be televised in the war-torn country, and it appears Mossa may not even have adequate representation. Every lawyer, all Muslims, that has been appointed by the courts to represent Mossa have refused. They dare not defend someone who converted to Christianity.
Mossa is a 45 year old, married, father of six children. His youngest is 8 and he has one disabled child. Mossa is an amputee and has spent 15 years of his life helping others with the International Red Cross. However a co-worker turned Mossa in for being a Christian convert – a crime in most Muslim nations practicing Sharia law.
In October Mossa gave a letter to a Western visitor so others may hear his story. Mossa said he has been imprisoned since May “due to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, saviour of the world.” He went on to describe much of what he has gone through while in prison.
“They did sexual things with me, beat me by wood, by hands, by legs, mocked me (“he’s Jesus Christ”), [spit] on me. No body let me for sleep night and day.” – Mossa
The government appears to have been promoting such ill treatment. Many outside observers wonder how the courts could condemn Mossa considering some of the country’s commitments in UN statements and their own Constitution. The Karzai government is a signatory of the UN Declaration on Human Rights. That document calls for freedom of religion and equal access to “a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal.” It also states that “no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.”
Afghanistan enacted their Constitution in 2003 with the help of the United States. The document declares in Article 2: “Followers of other religions are free to exercise their faith and perform their religious rites within the limits of the provisions of law.”
So what has been the response of the American government? When you consider the amount of lives lost and billions spent, we must demand more from the Afghanis. One Westerner in Kabul put it perfectly:
“The U.S. government has been actively engaged in Afghanistan since 2001, spending billions of dollars, exerting millions of hours of manpower, and losing precious American lives in order to ensure that the Afghan people enjoy these basic human rights. If one cannot enjoy these rights, none can enjoy them.”
Representatives of the U.S. embassy have visited Mossa in prison and confirmed he has been tortured. Thankfully they were able to convince the Afghanistan courts by letter to move Mossa to a new prison and away from other prisoners. But the diplomatic pressure has yet to get Mossa released and much of that pressure has been done by low level folks.
Many believe only President Karzai could get Mossa released, but somehow I think it will take more than letters from embassy workers to make that happen. A call from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or the President may do wonders. Even Mossa understands that. In the letter he sent out he started it:
“To the international church of the world and to the President Brother [Barack] Obama and to the heads of ISAF force in Afghanistan.” – Mossa
Christians were told by Christ they would suffer (John 16:33). However, with a little bit of high level pressure, this brave former Muslim may not have to suffer to the point of death. I pray that our President who found the time to ask a Florida pastor to not burn Korans will take the time to ask Karzai to let Mossa live.Read more at islamizationwatch.blogspot.com

"Pope calls for religious freedom in Muslim states," by Phillip Pullella for Reuters, November 11:
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict Thursday said all states must guarantee the freedom for everyone to practice their faith publicly, a clear criticism of some Muslim countries where religious rights are restricted. The pope issued the call in a document of nearly 200 pages called an "apostolic exhortation," in which he offered his reflections on a synod of bishops that met in the Vatican in 2008 on the theme the "Word of God."He said the Catholic Church respected all religions and a separate section of the document was dedicated to relations with Muslims."All the same, dialogue would not prove fruitful unless it included authentic respect for each person and the ability of all freely to practice their religion," he said."Respect and dialogue require reciprocity in all spheres," he said, adding that this had to include the right to profess religion "privately and publicly and (for) freedom of conscience to be effectively guaranteed to all believers.""Reciprocity" is the term the Roman Catholic Church uses in demanding full rights for Christians in Islamic states where laws prohibit them from practicing their faith openly. It has often asked for reciprocity with Saudi Arabia. At least 3.5 million Christians of all denominations live in the Gulf Arab region, the birthplace of Islam and home to some of the most conservative Arab Muslim societies in the world. The freedom to practice Christianity, or any religion other than Islam, is not always permitted in the Gulf and varies from country to country. Saudi Arabia, which observes an austere form of Sunni Islam, has the tightest restrictions. The Vatican says Christians in predominantly Muslim countries should be allowed to practice their faith openly, just as Muslims can in predominantly Christian countries in Europe. In Saudi Arabia, home to Islam's holiest sites, any form of non-Muslim worship takes place in private. Converting Muslims is punishable by death, although such sentences are rare.
Services and prayer meetings are often held in diplomats' homes but access is limited, so Christians meet to worship in hotel conference rooms, at great risk. The Vatican has expressed concern about the fate of Christians in predominantly Muslim Iraq, where 52 hostages and police were killed Sunday when security forces stormed a church that had been raided by al-Qaeda-linked gunmen. In the document, the pope re-stated Vatican opposition to the use of violence in the name of religion.

Makes sense, right? What could possibly stand in the way of that? Just Islamic law, whose very purpose is to establish Islam's dominance, and the subjugation of other religions under it. That imperative follows the commands of Qur'an 9:29, which provides unbelievers the options of conversion, subjugation, or war -- not reciprocal respect and dignity. Indeed, the entire purpose of jihad in all its forms is to impose the rule of Sharia, and this unjust social order that is enshrined in it.
Saudi Arabia is given particular attention in this story. Ultimately, the Saudis are only carrying out Muhammad's intentions according to authoritative (sahih, or "solid," "reliable") Islamic texts:
"I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim." - Sahih Muslim 19.4366.
Indeed, we are repeatedly told Islam in its "true" form is tolerant, but Islam is tolerant on Islam's own terms, and by its own definition of the proper extent of religious tolerance. The inherent instability and frequently violent conditions for non-Muslims in Muslim countries are direct consequences of Islam's utter rejection of the notion of reciprocity and equality between believers and non-believers.
It will be interesting to see what response Pope Benedict's comments elicit from Muslim leaders, beyond the usual generalities about "tolerance," "respect," and "justice," made with the hope that non-Muslim listeners will project their own cultural understanding onto those terms.Read more at www.jihadwatch.org
